Three girls have admitted to posing as clowns and making threats on social media to Willoughby-Eastlake students, police say.

On Monday afternoon, Eastlake police said they have identified three girls linked to making threats on social media using intimidating clown photos. Police say two of the girls are Eastlake Middle School students. The three girls admitted to creating fake social media accounts and posting the threats. Police say several students received notifications stating, "I am going to come for you."

A threat against Willoughby Middle, Eastlake Middle and South High schools was posted to Instagram Sunday.

One Instagram post said, "this is not fake" and that they are around the Eastlake area.

Police say they are reviewing charges against the girls with a juvenile prosecutor.
