Great Lakes Mall in Mentor will soon have a new big-name restaurant, after the city planning commission approved a plan Thursday to build a new Outback Steakhouse on Plaza Blvd.

The new building will presumably replace Mentor's current Outback on Market St., although Director of Economic & Community Development Ronald M. Traub didn't rule out the possibility of Bloomin' Brands (Outback's parent company) opening up a different chain at the old location.

Traub believes Outback's decision to move to the new spot "speaks to the vitality of Great Lakes Mall," adding that "it's always a great day in the city of Mentor."

While Outback does not yet have a specific timeline on when the restaurant will be built, Traub says the timing of the site approval means construction could begin as soon as this spring, with the establishment possibly opening by the end of the year.
