PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Ankle replacements are making a comeback. Even though they've been around for thirty years, early designs were failures. Now, thanks to new technology there are five different types on the market in the U.S.

Kathleen DiFranco opted for the Wright Medical Inbone ankle replacement. Her doctor, podiatric surgeon Jonathan Sharpe of Lake Health told her about this type of replacement because of its precision design.

Kathleen shattered her ankle in a car accident thirty years ago and spent the last three decades in pain and barely able to walk. Two years after surgery she's pain free and able to do basic things like walking and gardening.
