Dump truck crashes into house in Willoughby; passenger in vehicle killed

The crash also caused severe damage to the front side of the residence, severe fire damage, a ruptured gas line and downed power lines.

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — One person is dead after a dump truck crashed into a Willoughby house Saturday morning.

The incident happened at approximately 10:52 a.m. at a residence on Vine Street, close to Church Street. A call came into the Willoughby Fire Department about the dump truck and the house it crashed into being set on fire by the incident, with the driver of the truck and a passenger trapped inside the vehicle.

When fire crews arrived, they found the single resident of the home safely out of the house with no injuries. Two people were removed from the dump truck, with the driver being removed by Willoughby police officers and taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The passenger in the dump truck died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. 

The incident caused severe damage to the front side of the residence from the initial collision, significant fire damage, a ruptured gas line and downed power lines. The crash remains under investigation by the Willoughby Police Department.
