Lakewood Police report that a resident of Grace Avenue shot an intruder who had broken into his home. Lakewood Police say that the resident is a Cleveland Metroparks ranger who was off-duty at home at the time.

Just before 7 a.m. today (Wednesday), the police report details that the Lakewood Police Department received a call from an off-duty Metroparks ranger who was reporting that a man had broken into his home and that he had shot at him.

Police say in their report that they received calls from other people in the area reporting the sound of the suspect.

With a description of the suspect, police found him at 1645 Clarence Avenue with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.  Lakewood Fire Medics were called out and he was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, according to the police report.

The Cleveland Metroparks released a statement, saying "We are thankful that (the ranger) and his family are safe."

Charges have yet to be filed and the investigation continues.
