Lorain – The Lorain Police Department Traffic Bureau is investigating a 29-year-old Lorain resident’s death, after colliding with a train.

It happened on the Norfolk Southern Corporation rail road tracks near West 17th Street and Utica Avenue around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the initial investigation determined that a train was traveling eastbound on the tracks and a pedestrian was walking in the same direction on the tracks, reportedly talking on a cell phone.

According to Lorain police, the engineer of the Norfolk Southern train sounded the horn and put its emergency brakes on to try an avoid striking the pedestrian.

Police are not identifying the 29-year-old individual at this time.

The Lorain Police Department Traffic Bureau was assisted by the Lorain Police Auxiliary and Norfolk Southern Police Department in this incident.
