The national day of service, always held on the fourth Saturday in October, is one of the largest single days of service in the country.

Here in Northeast Ohio, volunteers have registered to take part in 65 local projects, equating to almost 4,000 hours of work, and over $90,000 of time invested in the community.

More than 100 Cleveland State University students have registered for Make a Difference Day projects and more than 1,000 from the University of Akron.

This year, Arby’s Foundation came on board as a national partner. Locally, eight Arby’s employees are taking part in several of our local projects. They will be volunteering right alongside WKYC staffers and providing lunch at five sites.

USA WEEKEND Magazine conceived the idea more than 20 years ago. Backed by TEGNA Inc., Gannett media properties and Points of Light, Make A Difference Day has mobilized millions of people across the U.S. for this national day of doing good.
