October 22 is national Make a Difference Day and volunteering to help Fairhill Partners with facility improvements is one of seven different options for Northeast Ohioans who want to participate.

Fairhill Partners is an organization that provides a number of resources such as housing, education, health care, and support to the elder community in Greater Cleveland.

Volunteers are needed to help with both interior and exterior projects.

Make A Difference Day, organized by WKYC's parent company, TEGNA, allows for thousands of volunteers and communities across the country to come together in an effort to improve the lives of others through community-driven projects.

Since its start in 1992, “Make A Difference Day proves that every person, no matter their age or background, and every action, no matter how big or small, can make a difference," said Gracia Martore, TEGNA president and chief executive officer.

WKYC employees will join with residents across the region in volunteering on this national day of service.

Local activities are being coordinated through BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence.

Choices range from sorting donated medical supplies for Medwish to cleaning up Lake Erie beaches with the Alliance for the Great Lakes.

Another option is the family-friendly “Trash N Treat Canal Cleanup” hosted by Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition.

Children are invited to come in their Halloween costumes and help their parents clean up the Canal, Towpath Trail and Howe house grounds.

You can register to participate in Make a Difference Day activities, with your family, co-workers, or by yourself.
