Mansfield police officers rescue man, dog from fire

They found a 60-year-old man unresponsive on the floor.

MANSFIELD, Ohio -- Three Mansfield police officers were released after treatment for carbon monoxide exposure after pulling a man and a dog from a residence Saturday night.

Mansfield police responded to a report of an open front door of a residence in the first block of Dunbilt Court, off Lexington Avenue, just after 8 p.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

Officers saw light smoke and a small fire inside the residence, according to the report. They also saw a 60-year-old man and a dog unresponsive on the living room floor.

Police removed the man and dog from the residence. The Mansfield Fire Department took the man to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. The dog was taken to a local veteranarian.

The fire department also put out the small fire and cleared the residence, which had a high concentration of carbon monoxide, according to the police report.

Three Mansfield police officers were taken to the hospital to be treated for carbon monoxide exposure.

The 60-year-old man is in stable condition at the hospital, according to the police report.
