CLEVELAND -- A woman has died after the car she was in went over a cliff Sunday afternoon. Her daughter, who was driving the car, was taken to the hospital after being freed by rescue crews.

The fire department says the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. at Perkins Beach on the west end of Edgewater Park. The car went over the embankment at the end of a parking lot.

Cleveland Fire Department Assistant Chief Brent Collins says the daughter was conscious while rescuers worked to free her from the wreckage.

She was then taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The woman who was killed has been been identified as 88-year-old Edith Pandur,of Medina, the passenger.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Cleveland police, the Coast Guard, Rocky River Fire Department, the Cleveland Metroparks, staff from ODNR also responded to the scene.

Assistant Chief Collins says the Metroparks will likely add barriers in that area to help prevent these kinds of incidents in the next couple days.
