MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that a passenger in a vehicle involved in a crash on US 42 at CR 995 in Montgomery Township has died as a result of her injuries.

On Wednesday, Andres Onate Ornelas, 18, of Sunbury, Ohio was driving northbound on CR 995 in a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Ornelas failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of US 42 and was struck by a westbound van driven by Kevin Nesbit, 24, of Louisville, Ohio.

Nesbit suffered minor injuries and declined treatment.

Ornelas suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Mansfield Med Central Hospital.

The passenger in the Eclipse, Christianna Ringler, 16, of Ashland, was taken by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Friday afternoon, Ringler died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Here family released a statement early Friday evening:

Christianna Ringler passed away at 2 this afternoon. We are heartbroken, and know that our community shares in that feeling. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at MetroHealth and Samaritan Hospital, as well as Ashland Fire and EMS, who worked tirelessly to save her life. We would like to thank our community for their outpouring of support, particularly with Thursday night's candlelight vigil and prayer service. That would have meant a lot to Christianna. She loved people and she loved the Lord Jesus. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Failure to yield from a stop sign appears to have contributed to the crash and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
