COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State football player, defensive tackle Haskell Garrett, says he was shot early Sunday morning while trying to stop an argument, according to a police report.
Officers responded just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday to the 400 block of Chittenden Avenue on a reported shooting.
According to a police report released Monday, Garrett said he was walking in the area of Chittenden Avenue and Grant Avenue when he saw a man and woman arguing.
Garrett described the argument as aggressive and asked the man to stop, according to the report.
The man then turned and shot him, Garrett told officers.
He was hit once in the face and said he ran south on Grant Avenue toward a friend's apartment.
According to police, officers found blood in the street and a shell casing near the blood.
The officers followed a blood trail to an apartment on East 11th Avenue where they found Garrett with a gunshot wound.
He was taken to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in stable condition and he was released from the hospital on Monday.
Police have not provided any information about a suspect.
