ASHLAND, Ohio -- At 4:40 p.m. Thursday, police here responded to a report of a man slumped over in a vehicle parked in the Dollar General parking lot at 825 East Main Street and that there was a child in the vehicle, according to an Ashland Police press release.
Police arrived and found drug abuse instruments, paraphernalia, and suspected opiates.
Two people were arrested at the scene: Stephen Losh, 31, and Amanda Morris , 30, both of whom claimed to be homeless.
On Friday, both were charged with one count each of endangering children. Losh was also found to have an active warrant for his arrest out of Wayne County, according to police.
Police say that the five-year-old special needs child found in the vehicle was removed by Ashland Police and turned over to Ashland County Department of Job and Family Services for placement.
Police said two additional children were removed from another location in relation to the case. The case is being forwarded to the Ashland County Prosecutor's Office, according to Vermilion Police Lt. Garry Alting.
