One man is dead after a plane crashed into a Portage County home Sunday night.

Stephen J. Paulus, 60, of Rootstown, the plane's pilot, was killed when the plane crashed into the back deck of a home at the 7900 block of Nicodemus Road around 5:34 p.m.

The plane is described as orange, single engine, experimental plane out of the Portage County Airport.

Paulus was the only occupant on the plane.

The homeowners were not present at the time of the crash.

An autopsy will be completed by the Portage County Coroner.
