Nurses continue fight to save Affinity Medical Center in Massillon

Nurses from the hospital's staff held a community meeting Saturday.

The fight to save Affinity Medical Center in Massillon continues.

Nurses from the hospital's staff held a community meeting Saturday to discuss ways to keep the hospital open and funded. Affinity is the only hospital in the city, and last month officials announced they were planning to close it down.

Earlier this week, Massillon City Council agreed to take ownership of the facility once it closes under its current ownership at the end of the month. However, its nurses say more should be done.

"It's going to be very important for the future of our children, our grandchildren, Stephanie Still, RN, said. "The hospital's been around for over 100 years, and we want to see it continue to be a hospital."

Normal operations—including the emergency room—will continue through Feb. 11.
