Summit Metro Parks has completed its purchase of Valley View Golf Club in Akron, the parks announced Friday.
The gold course spans 194 acres and lies between Sand Run Metro Parks and Cascade Valley and Gorge parks.
A news release states that acquisition of the land will give the metro parks new ways to access the Cuyahoga River and the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
The addition of the land also forms the second largest natural area managed by the Summit Metro Parks at just under 1,700 acres. Liberty Park's 3,000 acres is the largest.
Biologists and planners are going to study the property to decide how to restore it to a native and natural state. From there, a master plan containing recreational and educational opportunities will be created.
The Cascade Valley Metro Park and Valley View area will closed during the planning process.
