Akron Police have taken a man into custody after he shot at officers during a traffic stop.
Officers responded to a tip for a wanted man on Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m.
Authorities attempted to stop a red Chevy Blazer near the intersection of Morse Road and East Avenue.
34-year-old, Michael Johnson jumped from the rear passenger side of the vehicle and began firing several shots at officials.
Officials returned fire as Johnson fled through a nearby field.
The field let out to a Circle K located at 1608 East Avenue, where Johnson attempted to carjack a customer in the parking lot.
Unsuccessful, he continued to flee running eastbound on East Avenue.
Johnson was then struck by a police cruiser. He was taken into custody and then transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with a broken leg.
Johnson was wanted for escape, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, open container in a motor vehicle and contempt of court.
He will be booked at Summit County Jail.
