CLEVELAND -- A vigil will be held Thursday afternoon for 5-year-old Jamani Brooks, who was fatally shot earlier this week.

A flyer for the vigil declares in bold letters: Another Senseless Murder!!! Jermani though you are gone, you will be in the hearts of those who loved you forever!

The public is asked to support family and friends at the vigil, which takes place at 5:30 p.m. at 13307 Bellaire Drive in Cleveland.

The shooting took place late Sunday night near 130th Street and Crossburn Avenue. Jermani and her mother, Noni, were both shot in the head while sitting inside a vehicle. Noni, who survived the shooting, remains in the hospital.

A suspect accused in the shooting, 32-year-old Geoffrey Gurkovich, faced a judge Thursday morning charged in Jermani's death. A judge set bond at $5 million.

His arrest was announced Tuesday.

Today marks what would have been Jerman's sixth birthday.
