Belgian prosecutor: 2 police stabbed, may be terror-related

Two police officers were stabbed in Brussels on Wednesday in an incident that Belgian prosecutors said may be terror-related.

Two police officers were stabbed in Brussels on Wednesday in an incident that Belgian prosecutors said may be terror-related.

One officer was stabbed in the neck and the other in the abdomen. A third officer suffered a broken nose.

The assault took place in the city's Schaerbeek neighborhood, according to Belgian broadcaster VRT.

The assailant was shot in the leg as he tried to flee the scene.

There were no reports of injuries to bystanders and the officers' injures are not life-threatening.

"We have reason to believe that it is terror-related," said Eric Van Der Sypt, a representative from Belgium's federal prosecutor's office.

He did not elaborate on why prosecutors think the attack was linked to terrorism.

Earlier the day two major train stations in the Belgian capital were evacuated amid bomb threats.

Thirty-two people were killed in suicide bombing attacks on the Brussels airport and subway on March 22.
