Former president George H. W. Bush is in the hospital after developing a mild case of pneumonia, but he has already been treated, his family spokesman said Tuesday.

The 41st president was admitted on Friday because of a persistent cough kept him from getting rest, spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement. Doctors determined he had pneumonia, and that has since resolved.

"President Bush is in very good spirits and is being held for further observation while he regains his strength," McGrath said.
