Tom Beres talks Ohio gubernatorial race with candidate Mary Taylor: video

When asked what she believes Ohio's single biggest problem is, Taylor said the work force.

Former WKYC senior political correspondent Tom Beres is hosting a series of interviews with Ohio's gubernatorial candidates.

Lt. Governor Mary Taylor was Beres' latest interview as she sat down with him at the University of Akron's Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics on Thursday morning.

Taylor said she believes Ohio's voters will vote based on issues and what they believe will be best for the state, not based on gender. Taylor is the only woman remaining in the race.

Opponent Mike DeWine became a topic of discussion and Taylor pointed out DeWine's voting record, indicating he leans too far left for the liking of Republicans.

"He is the establishment," Taylor said of DeWine. "He has a liberal voting record and yet, today, he is trying to convince Republican primary voters that he is a conservative when what we really could expect is more of what we've seen from Mike DeWine."

Taylor also discussed her relationship with Gov. John Kasich, reiterating she wants voters to focus on her plan, not Kasich's.

"My efforts and my time has really all been focused on those things that I believe matter to Republican primary voters," she said.

When asked what she believes Ohio's single biggest problem is, Taylor said the work force.
