WATCH | WKYC commemorates LeBron James Family Foundation partnership with annual video

Every year, WKYC releases a new video to commemorate our partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation.

This year’s video, created by Marketing Producer Ryan Radefeld, captures some of the foundation’s students reciting the “I Promise Pledge.”

Every student in LeBron’s foundation knows the words of the pledge, because it’s read aloud at every event. It talks about all the principles they’re learning through their involvement with the foundation – from staying in school to eating healthy to being respectful of others.

Lebron James himself chimes in the end of this year’s video, speaking the final line of the pledge:

“And above all else, to finish school.”

It’s meaningful to us that “Mr. LeBron”, as the kids call him, didn’t want to miss this opportunity to salute and encourage the more than 1,200 Akron students enrolled in his foundation’s programs.

Children featured in the video are part of LeBron’s “Hard Work Club,” meaning they meet after school for homework help and enrichment activities, funded by the foundation.

The LeBron James Family Foundation wraps underachieving students from Akron Public Schools in a blanket of support year-round, rewarding them for good grades and attendance and adding in field trips, mentorship and the opportunity to earn a four-year scholarship to the University of Akron.

WKYC is proud to salute the foundation’s game-changing work with Akron students and their families.

Congratulations to the foundation on achieving a new milestone on Nov. 27, when the Akron Public Schools gave formal approval to the master plan for the I Promise School. The school is expected to open in Fall 2018.
