LAKEWOOD -- On the 100th birthday of Mother's Day, a signature Lakewood restaurant is 'almost' half that age – and it's been serving Mother's Day brunch since it opened nearly 50 years ago.

Pier W held its 49th brunch geared towards moms on their special day. The selection featured a wide variety of gourmet food and delectable desserts.

Some families decided to enjoy the food for the first time because of the restaurant's reputation of having a "critically acclaimed seafood menu since 1965."

The restaurant takes pride in making the day special for mom on its busiest day of the year.

"Mothers are always special… so of course people want to take their mothers out for Mother's Day," Pier W's GM Mark Kawada tells Channel 3's Hilary Golston. "It's probably the most under-rated job in the world. It's probably the hardest job in the world. So taking mom out to a luxurious lunch where you can have any type of food possible… I think is a great thing."

The distinctive buffet is offered every Sunday, but the restaurant's Executive Chef, Regan Reik takes the menu up a notch.

"Normally there's maybe 45- 50 items… this week there's probably 65-70 different items on the buffet... cold… hot… pastries… all different types. Hopefully there's something for everyone that they can find on the buffet," Reik explains.

Some people make Pier W a destination for the special Sunday, but others are trying the local hot spot for the first time on Mother's Day.

"The view is really nice over here and this special day I've got my mother over here and also my beautiful wife… my beautiful child… it's gonna be a blast," Mohammed Bakkar remarked.

According to Pier W's website "the unique building architecture is designed to resemble the hull of a luxury liner cruising along Lake Erie."

It claims to boast the only restaurant lake view of downtown Cleveland.
