One of the toddlers involved in a drowning incident in Pittsfield Township last month, is on the road to recovery.

The Lorain County Sheriff's Department announced that the 23-month-old boy has been released from Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, is improving daily, and expected to make a full recovery.

Two children, the boy, and his 22 month old female cousin, were in the care of a home-operated day care operation and were discovered by a resident there to be partially submerged in an above-ground pool on October 5.

The children were taken to Oberlin Mercy Allen Hospital where the girl was later pronounced dead. The boy was taken by LifFlight to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.

Both toddlers were from the Wellington area, according to the sheriff.

The sheriff's department says it is unknown at this time how long the children were in the water. There was a gate and fence surrounding the deck to the pool, however, it has not yet been determined if the gate was properly secured.

The investigation continues and is being reviewed by the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office.
