Franklin Regional Senior High School is quiet tonight, especially for us still telling the story.

It started as a normal Wednesday but turned into one they'll never forget.

"I was just sitting there eating breakfast," said junior Josh Carney. "Someone comes running in, and her hand was gashed open. She was bleeding everywhere, and she didn't know what to do. Then the fire alarm came off, and someone came and yelled that someone had a knife."

"I was standing at my locker, and I went to turn around and Alex, he had a knife in both of his hands," said sophomore Brenda Gossar. "When I went to look around, all I seen was him going and stabbing everyone."

Authorities say 16-year-old Alex Hribal was wielding two 8-inch steak knives through the hallways. The victims -- 21 students and a 60-year-old security guard students knew as "Sarge."

"I was in total shock," Gossar said. "I just like ran. I was just questioning was is going to happen to me next.

She ran to find help.

Now authorities need help finding answers. Hribal faces attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges.

Authorities said he will be prosecuted as an adult.

"It's a messed-up situation. What caused this kid to do this? What's in his mind to cause him to physically, actually do this to someone," said senior Joseph Harvey,

That's where authorities are just beginning to ask. "They are executing a search warrant at Hribal's home. They have an FBI specialist interviewing him. They want answers.

The school is closed through Friday.
