AKRON, Ohio -- Tragedy in Summit County as seven people -- including five children -- died in a house fire earlier this year. Headlines surrounding that devastating story were among the most-viewed Akron articles from 2017.

There was also a lot of interest in our coverage at a pair of abandoned spots.

5. Person of interest in Akron fatal fire being held in Portage County

After seven people died in a fire -- including five children -- police revealed a person of interest was being held by authorities. This deadly fire also earned another spot in our most-viewed Akron stories in 2017.

4. Akron’s abandoned Rubber Bowl nears foreclosure

From live music to sporting events, the Rubber Bowl was once a popular place to be. Today, the space sits in ruins. In September of this year, our story about the Rubber Bowl's drab future captured a lot of attention.

3. Final look inside Rolling Acres Mall

This story was actually from November 2016, but its popularity poured into this year as many people feasted their eyes on our exclusive tour of Rolling Acres Mall as demolition began. Our coverage included a gallery with 180 photos inside the Akron landmark and a nearly two-hour walkthrough video on Facebook live.

2. Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump

Although the sun was shining, the lake was just 38 degrees. That wickedly cold water didn't stop more than 700 people from diving in during the 14th Annual Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump on Feb. 18. In total, the jumpers raised more than $160,000 for the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank.

1. 5 children, 2 adults killed in Akron fire

News broke early one morning that a house fire had erupted in Akron. We later learned there were five children and two adults who perished. We continue extending our thoughts and prayers to the families impacted by this horrific situation.
