There's no doubt that 2017 was filled with memorable headlines and moments that will forever leave a mark on our world.

We saw the deadliest mass shooting in our nation's history. We watched a polarizing new president take office. We witnessed an uprising of women's empowerment amid a #MeToo movement that refused to remain silent. In Cleveland, a heinous murder broadcast on Facebook rocked our headlines.

Here were WKYC.com's five most-read stories of the year.

5. 'Cash me outside' girl returns to Dr. Phil

She went viral on a catch phrase that left many, including Dr. Phil, scratching their heads.

Danielle Bregoli first appeared on the Dr. Phil show last September and became an internet meme, labeling her as the "Cash Me Outside girl."

The nickname stems from a rant during which audience members on the show began laughing and Danielle challenged them to a fight, uttering the now infamous phrase, "Cash me outside, how bow dah?"

When Danielle returned to the show for an update, we wrote up a story to give our viewers a heads up for some can't miss TV.

4. Verify: False information circulating in Steve Stephens manhunt

The story of Steve Stephens and Robert Godwin Sr. rocked the city of Cleveland.

Stephens shot and killed Godwin on Easter Sunday in a horrific act that Stephens uploaded to Facebook. After the killing, the manhunt for Stephens left many feeling uneasy as his whereabouts remained unknown for two days.

With so many questions, rumors circulated the internet and we tried to set the record straight.

3. Michael Symon's Cleveland Heights home for sale

Famed Cleveland chef Michael Symon, owner of downtown staples Lola and Mabel's, put his house on the market and our viewers were intrigued.

Symon's beautiful 2,825 square-foot Cleveland Heights home was listed for $549,900. We gathered photos of the home via the realtor and it seems everyone wanted a peek.

2. Steve Stephens kills himself in Erie, Pa.

The manhunt for Steve Stephens, the man who killed Robert Godwin Sr. and uploaded video of the slaying to Facebook, ended in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Stephens, who'd been on the run for two days, stopped at an Erie McDonald's, where a quick-witted employee recognized him. The employee fibbed to Stephens, telling him his food required some cooking time, and called police.

A brief police chase followed and ended when Stephens took his own life inside his car.

1. Facebook shooting suspect may be in other states

One of our initial stories first reporting the murder of Robert Godwin Sr. and the identity of his killer, Steve Stephens, was our most-read story this year.

The killing, which generated national coverage, left the country shocked as video of the horrific killing was uploaded to Facebook by Stephens.

Cleveland, its surrounding cities and nearby states were all on high alert as police warned that Stephens may have fled to Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York or Indiana.
