J.T. Barrett gets assist from former Buckeyes at Ohio State's Pro Day

Quarterback J.T. Barrett got an assist from former Buckeyes Brian Hartline and Cardale Jones at Ohio State's Pro Day Thursday.

Quarterback J.T. Barrett got an assist from past Buckeyes at Ohio State’s Pro Day in Columbus Thursday.

With the Buckeyes having most of their receiving corps scheduled to return for the 2018 season, and thus, unable to participate in Pro Day workouts, former Ohio State pass catcher Brian Hartline returned to the fieldhouse in Columbus to run routes for and catch passes from Barrett.

Additionally, Barrett got an assist from a familiar face in the quarterback room before throwing the ball, as Cardale Jones served as his personal snapper during the workout.

Barrett enters the NFL Draft after one of the most prolific careers not only in the history of Ohio State, but also, in the Big Ten Conference.

Barrett leaves Ohio State the owner of Big Ten records for total offensive yards in a career (12,697), touchdown passes (104), touchdowns responsible for (147) and the most Player of the Week awards (nine).

In addition to the Big Ten records, Barrett set new Ohio State records for wins by a quarterback (38), career completion percentage (63.5), touchdown passes, passing yards (9,434) and passing yards per game average (188.7). Also, Barrett set the career total offense records for the most 200-, 300- and 400-yard games.

Barrett finished his career as Ohio State’s all-time leading rusher from the quarterback position with 3,263 yards, which was the seventh-highest total in school history regardless of position, and his 43 running scores trail only Pete Johnson, Keith Byars, Ezekiel Elliott and Eddie George, who won the 1995 Heisman Trophy.

Barrett was a three-time Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year Award (2014, 2016-2017), a one-time Second-Team All-American (2014), the 2017 East-West Shrine Game Pat Tillman Award winner and a finalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award in 2017.

As a redshirt freshman in 2014, Barrett earned the Big Ten Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year Award after being pressed into service following a preseason injury to senior quarterback Braxton Miller.

When the Buckeyes lost Miller for the year because of a shoulder injury 10 days before the start of the regular season, Barrett stepped in and completed 203 of his 314 attempts for 2,834 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Coupled with his 938 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground, Barrett broke the Big Ten Conference’s record for most touchdowns responsible for in a single season before a broken right ankle against Michigan ended his year prematurely.

A three-time All-Big Ten Conference honoree, including first-team selections in both 2016 and 2017, Barrett completed 769 attempts for 9,434 yards and 104 touchdowns against 30 interceptions, and punctuated his career with a career-best 3,053-yard, 35-touchdown season this past fall.
