Ohio State WR and Akron native Parris Campbell to return for senior season

Campbell had been considering foregoing his senior season and entering the 2018 NFL Draft.

The 2018 Ohio State football team received some welcome news on Thursday when wide receiver Parris Campbell announced he'll be returning to school for his senior season.

Now entering his fifth season in Columbus, Campbell had previously been wrestling with entering the upcoming NFL Draft. Instead, he'll return to the Buckeyes after leading the team in receiving yards (584) and finishing second in receptions (40) to go along with three touchdown catches en route to earning third-team All-Big Ten honors from the conference coaches in 2017. Primarily playing the 'H-back' role in Urban Meyer's offense, the former 4-star prospect added 132 yards and a touchdown on 10 rushing attempts.

Also a dynamic player on special teams, Campbell earned second-team and third-team All-Big Ten honors from the conference's media and coaches, respectively, as a return specialist this past season. The Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary's product averaged 25.3 yards on nine kick returns in 2017.

In returning to Ohio State, Campbell helps bolster a Buckeyes receiving corps that will aim to make a seamless transition for J.T. Barrett's successor at quarterback. Barring any unexpected departures, Ohio State is slated to return its top-six receivers from a season ago.

Previously, running back Mike Weber had also announced his intentions to return to Columbus in 2018. Cornerback Denzel Ward, defensive end Sam Hubbard and linebacker Jerome Baker, meanwhile, have each declared for the draft, while defensive tackle Dre'Mont Jones has yet to publicly announce a decision.

The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft is Jan. 15.
