Tiger Woods will not play in the Safeway Open this week, postponing his highly anticipated comeback, a person with knowledge of Woods' decision told USA TODAY Sports.
The person requested anonymity because he is not authorized to talk publicly about the matter.
Golf Channel's Tim Rosaforte was the first to report that Woods would withdraw.
Woods, a 14-time major champ, hasn’t played a competitive round in a PGA Tour event since the Wyndham Championship in August 2015. He committed to play in the Safeway Open last Friday and was scheduled to pair with NBA superstar Stephen Curry during Wednesday's Pro-Am.
It's unclear whether Woods will play in the upcoming Turkish Airlines Open (Nov. 3-6) or the Hero World Challenge (Dec. 1-4).
