John's Take: Should losing players be allowed to skip media interviews?

For My Take, Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera is looking for more protection for his quarterback.

For My Take, Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera is looking for more protection for his quarterback.

Not against any hit from a big defensive player but in this case, he wants to protect him from the media.

Rivera says the losing team of the Super Bowl should not be required to give interviews after the game. We all know how his quarterback Cam Newton acted after losing the Super Bowl.

Newton didn't say much during the two plus minute news conference and then he got up and walked away. He later admitted to being a poor sport saying he doesn't handle losing very well.

But what Cam Newton does handle well is grabbing the spotlight when it benefits him. There isn't a quarterback in the league that looks for more attention and camera time when he makes a big play.

I've said it before that I'm OK with this because he brings excitement, emotion and energy to the game. But I've also said you have to take the good with the bad.

I know I'm biased here because I'm in the media and I want to tell the story of all the emotions in the game, winning and losing.

But as a fan what do you want? Cam Newton makes $20 million a season. You're the fan who pays these salaries. You invest your time and money in this game. Are you OK if your team doesn't have to talk after a big loss?
