AKRON (AP) - Freshman Virshon Cotton drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds left to give Akron an 80-78 win over Bowling Green on Saturday to snap a three-game skid.

Lucas Smith snatched the offensive rebound after Jimond Ivey, who totaled 19 points, missed a trey with :25 remaining. Cotton took the next shot for the win.

The Zips (8-8, 1-3 MAC) won without Emmanuel Olojakpoke, who underwent open-heart surgery on Friday after experiencing dizzy spells earlier in the week. Akron will be without the 6-8 sophomore from Houston for the rest of the season. He was named MAC Player of the Week on December 11.

Cotton led the Zips with 23 points.

Akron finished without three other players. Jaden Sayles, who had 14 points, did not return after suffering an injury with 8:46 remaining and Daniel Utomi and Malcolm Duvivier, who finished with 13 points, both fouled out with over two minutes remaining.

Bowling Green's (11-6, 2-2) Justin Turner, who totaled 30 points, capped a 10-0 run with a trey and two free threes to close to 70-68 with 3:52 remaining.

Demajeo Wiggins, Rodrick Caldwell and Turner made eight straight free throws to tie 77-77 with 49 seconds left.
