CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns will make their return to prime time against the New York Jets at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland in Week 3 of the 2018 regular season on Thursday, September 20.

After not being featured in prime time during the 2017 season, the Browns were awarded one of the NFL’s prime-time slots as a part of the Thursday Night Football package of games, the league announced when it released the 2018 regular-season schedule Thursday night.

“We have a Thursday night early in the season, and then, our bye week in Week 11,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said in the release announcing the schedule. “That gives us two extended periods at different points in the season for our players to get some rest and recovery.

“That’s a benefit because it is a long season.”

The Browns and Jets have met just one time previously in the prime-time spotlight, and it came in the first-ever Monday Night Football game, which was contested at Cleveland Municipal Stadium on September 21, 1970.

The Browns defeated the Jets, 31-21, in that first Monday Night Football contest.

All-time, the Browns are 22-32 in prime-time games, including a 6-16 mark since returning to the National Football League for the 1999 season. The Browns have lost three straight prime-time games, dating back to a 31-10 setback to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, November 5, 2015.

The Browns are 14-16 in home prime-time games, but have struggled away from Cleveland, posting an 8-16 record. The Browns are 3-2 at home, but 2-6 in road games in Thursday Night Football appearances.

The Browns are 15-15 all-time in Monday Night Football appearances, including the victory over the Jets in the first-ever Monday prime-time game. However, they have not won a Monday Night Football game since a 29-27 decision over the Buffalo Bills on November 17, 2008.

On Thursday nights, the Browns are 5-8, and despite losing their last two features, they are 2-2 in their last four appearances with wins over the Bills (37-24) on October 3, 2013 and Bengals (24-3) on November 6, 2014.
