CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns made a statement on the first official day of the new year in the National Football League by making four trades that netted three players who figure prominently in the plans for 2018 and several picks in upcoming drafts.

Just an hour into the new league year, the Browns confirmed they acquired wide receiver Jarvis Landry (Miami Dolphins), quarterback Tyrod Taylor (Buffalo Bills) and defensive back Damarious Randall (Green Bay Packers), as well as three picks in the next two drafts.

And on their first official day in Berea, Landry and Taylor helped Browns coach Hue Jackson find something within himself that went missing over the last two seasons.

“Swag, absolutely,” Jackson said in a press conference confirming the moves. “It gives me back my swag. His nickname is ‘Juice,’ ‘Juice’ Landry. He does have juice. He is a tremendous football player. Obviously, his stats speak for themselves. He is a proven football player in the building who has a lot of intensity and a lot of pride about what he does. We are looking for that to show here for our football team.

“You look at Tyrod and the way he carries himself, you can tell he is very proud of his accomplishments. I know everybody is talking about the past and what has gone on here. I don’t think that is what phases him. He has been in tough situations before.”

With a season-ending loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field on New Year’s Eve 2017, the Browns went winless in a 16-game schedule for the first time in franchise history, and their 17th consecutive loss overall dropped the organization to a league-worst 1-31 since the opening game of 2016.

The Browns have not won on a Sunday afternoon since December 13, 2015, and those 33 straight Sunday losses are an NFL record.

Last season, the Browns set the record for the worst 28-game stretch in NFL history, as they “bested” the previous mark of 2-26 set by the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 1976-1977 seasons with a 1-27 mark that got four losses worse after Week 13.

“I think we all understand the situation we are in,” Jackson said. “We have a lot of work to do. Those are two guys that you start to turn and change the narrative with and change the culture with. These guys are good players, and they are not going to come here and, all of the sudden, change. They are going to come here and play well for us.”

Nearly every one of the additions to the roster, both through the trades, as well as the seven players added in free agency, bring playoff experience to the Browns.

“What an exciting time,” Jackson said.

“This is just the starting piece of putting everything together so we have an opportunity, when football season comes around, to showcase our abilities and our opportunity to play football at a winning level. It is a great time to be a Cleveland Brown. We are excited about it, plugged a lot of holes and added some depth to our football team. It is just the start. It is exciting, but we have a lot of work to still do.”
