Browns LB Mack Wilson a healthy scratch vs. Giants

Cleveland Browns linebacker Mack Wilson is a surprise inactive for the team's matchup with the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.

The Cleveland Browns' inactive list for their matchup with the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football includes a surprise addition. Shortly before kickoff, the Browns announced that linebacker Mack Wilson will be among their six inactives for Sunday night's game.

Having appeared in 11 games this season, including seven starts, Wilson hadn't been dealing with a known injury this week and hasn't appeared on the Browns' injury report. The 2019 fifth-round pick has tallied 32 tackles, one of which came for a loss, and two pass defenses in his second season in Cleveland.

With Wilson out of the lineup, rookie Jacob Phillips is expected to start at Will linebacker. The Browns' full list of inactive players for Sunday is as follows:

  • WR Marvin Hall
  • S Andrew Sendejo
  • CB Robert Jackson
  • LB Mack Wilson
  • G Wyatt Teller
  • DE Joe Jackson

Cleveland's inactive list also confirmed that start cornerback Denzel Ward will make his return to the Browns' lineup on Sunday after having missed the previous three games with a calf strain. Meanwhile, guard Wyatt Teller (ankle) and safety Andrew Sendejo (concussion) will also be absent from Cleveland's starting lineup on Sunday.

Laying claim to a 9-4 record, a Browns win on Sunday would go a long toward the team breaking its 17-season postseason drought. A loss, meanwhile, could provide costly, as fellow AFC playoff contenders Indianapolis, Tennessee, Baltimore and Miami each won on Sunday.
