REPORT | Cleveland Browns to name Amos Jones as special teams coordinator

Jones was the special teams coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals from 2013-17.

The Cleveland Browns are reportedly on the verge of naming a new special teams coordinator.

As first reported by the Sporting News' Alex Marvez, the Browns are set to hire Amos Jones to replace Chris Tabor, who left to take the special teams coordinator position with the Chicago Bears.

The 58-year-old Jones will come to Cleveland after spending the last five seasons as special teams coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals. Prior to working in Arizona, Jones spent 2012 as special teams coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers after working for the team as an assistant special teams coach from 2007-12.

Before joining the Steelers, Jones spent 21 years as a college assistant, making stops at Mississippi State, James Madison, Cincinnati, Tulane, and Pittsburgh. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Alabama, working for the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant. Jones played for Bryant with the Crimson Tide as a safety and running back.

Tabor served as the Browns special teams coordinator for seven seasons, working for four different head coaches: Pat Shurmur, Rob Chudzinski, Mike Pettine, and Hue Jackson.
