Report: Ex-Cleveland Browns coaches held 'fired Browns coaches party' at NFL Scouting Combine

Hopefully they found a restaurant large enough to host all of them.

While the Cleveland Browns went to the NFL Scouting Combine last week focused on their future, some of the team's former employees opted to poke fun at their past. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, a small group of former Browns coaches opted to hold a "fired Browns coaches party" at a local restaurant while together in Indianapolis.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed Fowler's story, adding that it was a restaurant aptly named Rock Bottom.

While neither Schefter nor Fowler revealed which former Cleveland coaches took part in the gathering, there are plenty of candidates to choose from. Up until bringing back head coach Hue Jackson for 2018, the Browns hadn't retained a head coach for more than two seasons since Romeo Crennel, who was fired following the 2008 campaign.

Of the ex-Cleveland coaches who remain in the NFL and could have potentially attended the event are:

  • Romeo Crennel, Browns head coach 2005-2008, current Houston Texans defensive coordinator.
  • Pat Shurmur, Browns head coach 2011-12, current New York Giants head coach.
  • Mike Pettine, Browns head coach 2014-15, current Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator.
  • Norv Turner, Browns offensive coordinator 2013, current Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator.
  • Kyle Shanahan, Browns offensive coordinator 2014, current San Francisco 49ers head coach.
  • Brian Daboll, Browns offensive coordinator 2009-2010, current Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator
  • John DeFilippo, Browns offensive coordinator 2015, current Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator
  • Terry Robiskie, Browns wide receivers coach 2001-03, 05-06, offensive coordinator/interim coach 2004, current Buffalo Bills wide receivers coach.

And that's just a list of former Browns head coaches and coordinators.

No word yet on whether or not the fired Cleveland coaches summit will become an annual combine tradition moving forward.
