After struggling to manage the clock and potentially leaving points on the scoreboard at the end of the second quarter, the Cleveland Browns started the second half with a touchdown rush from running back Isaiah Crowell with 11:01 to play in the third quarter from Ford Field in Detroit.
Facing a first-and-goal from the Detroit six-yard line, Crowell took a handoff around left end and ran through a tackle attempt at the goal line for the touchdown. Kicker Zane Gonzalez tacked on the extra point to knot the game at 17 all.
Crowell and running back Duke Johnson carried the load for much of the eight-play, 85-yard drive.
On the second play of the possession, Crowell rushed for a 21-yard gain on second-and-seven, and after a 12-yard pass from rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer to wide receiver Ricardo Louis for a 12-yard gain along the sideline, Johnson rushed for gains of six and 19 yards on back-to-back carries.
Then, Crowell rushed for a 14-yard gain to set up the touchdown run one play later.
