The Cleveland Browns came out firing on their first drive of the second half of the 2017 season, and that early success led to a field goal and 3-0 lead over the Detroit Lions with 11:30 to play in the first quarter at Ford Field in Detroit.
On the first play from scrimmage, rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer completed a 38-yard pass down the left sideline. Despite coverage, wide receiver Sammie Coates was able to hang onto the football with one hand while being pushed out of bounds.
Kizer’s pass moved the Browns from Detroit’s 47-yard line to the nine. However, the Browns gained just four yards after the big pass and settled for a 23-yard field goal from rookie kicker Zane Gonzalez.
