Katie Nageotte has quite a lot to be thankful for.
Months after capturing the gold medal in the pole vault at the Tokyo Olympics, the 30-year-old native of Olmsted Falls has announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Hugo Moon.
Nageotte shared the news on her Facebook page on Thursday evening.
“‘Running to the altar like a track star’-Justin Bieber” - Katie Nageotte. This year will be VERY hard to beat . I love you the most Hugo Moon, and I can’t wait to be your stage 5 clinger for the rest of our lives . #engaged"
The year that has been 'hard to beat' for Nageotte included achieving her dream of gold after topping the bar at 4.9m in the women's pole vault final at the Tokyo Olympics in August.
"That last winning jump, I was more shocked because as I was coming in and as I was rising, I was like, 'this is not a good jump, there's no way I'm making this bar.' I could do that exact jump a thousand more times and not make that bar. I just got very lucky," Nageotte told 3News after her gold medal performance.
While Katie Nageotte achieved her dream of gold, she had a packed house of friends, family, and fans cheering her on at a watch party held at at Fat Little Buddies Tavern in Olmsted Township.
"Before my third attempt, I was thinking 'don't mess this up, a lot of people woke up early for you,' but I could definitely feel the support coming from back home," Katie recalled.
"'Till this morning, I was actually pretty relaxed, surprisingly," Moon told 3News as the events in Tokyo were unfolding.

After Katie's win, Hugo remarked, "She's better than everyone, but my God, she tested our patience."
So what's next for Katie Nageotte as far as her athletic career is concerned? She's not about to take a break anytime soon. In fact, she's already looking ahead to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
"Ironically enough, this season isn't over yet. We have a couple more meets," Nageotte told 3News after her gold medal win. "Next year's world championships are in Oregon. I think other than the Olympics, getting to compete on U.S. soil at home for the championships is about as good as it gets. I definitely want to go through next year and the plan is through 2024. I'll have to take it year by year."
We also now know there's a lot for Katie to look forward to outside of the track and field world, too. Congratulations Katie and Hugo!
