In men's figure skating, Nathan Chen finished a shocking 17th in the short program, placing him behind even American teammates Adam Rippon and Vincent Zhou.
The on the slopes, Mikaela Shiffrin finished a shocking fourth in women's slalom skiing, her specialty event that she won four years ago in Sochi.
Things were not all bad, however, as the United State's men's hockey team picked up a much-needed win over Slovakia thanks to two goals by Harvard star Ryan Donato.

12:55 a.m. - Korean DMZ
Before the games began, Will Ujek traveled to what is arguably the most dangerous border in the world: The Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea.
12:38 a.m. - Japanese dominate men's short program; Chen disappoints
It was all about Japan in the latter stages of the men's figure skating short program, with Asian heartthrob Yuzuru Hanyu taking first place with a score of 111.68, causing the ecstatic crowd to show their pleasure with Winnie-the-Pooh bears. It's a nod to the skater's "good luck charm."
Meanwhile, much-hyped American Nathan Chen's short program was an absolute disaster: Just 82.27. Not only does that put him in 17th place, but it's also behind U.S. teammates Adam Rippon and Vincent Zhou, both considered to be inferior skaters to Chen.
The men's event wraps up with the long program tomorrow.
12:34 a.m. - USA hangs on for men's hockey win
The United States stepped up late and recovered from its opening loss to take down Slovakia 2-1. They are now in first place in Group B.
Ryan Donato, a 21-year-old from Harvard, proved to be the hero with both of Team USA's goals.
12:06 a.m. - USA takes lead in men's hockey
The United States is back on top, 2-1 over Slovakia in the third period. Ryan Donato scored his second goal of the night on a power play.
In a shocking result, defensing gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin failed to medal in women's skiing slalom, finishing four tenths of a second behind first place finisher Frida Hansdotter of Sweden. Wendy Holdener of Switzerland took the Silver, while Austria's Katharina Gallhuber earned the bronze.

11:06 p.m. - USA, Slovakia tied after one
The United States and Slovakia are tied at 1 just minutes into the second period. Ryan Donato struck first for Team USA in the first period before Slovakia tied it up 25 seconds later.
10:52 p.m. - Rippon moves into first after solid short program
American Adam Rippon may have just skated the best short program of his life, carding a score of 87.95 to take over first place in men's figure skating.

10:26 p.m. - South Korean wins men's skeleton
Host country South Korea just picked up its second gold medal of these games and its first skeleton medal in Olympic history, with Yu Sung-Bin dominating the men's event with a time over a second and a half in front of second place.
10:16 p.m. - Shiffrin battling apparent illness
Apparently Mikaela Shiffrin wasn't feeling 100 percent prior to her first slalom run, telling NBC she was "kind of puking" from what felt like a virus.
The 22-year-old currently sits in fourth place with one run to go.

The United States men's hockey team is taking on Slovakia right now on CNBC following a devastating loss in its opening game against Slovenia.

Not only is skeleton competitor Akwasi Frimpong of Ghana living it up at these Olympics, but he might also have the coolest suit ever made.

8:36 p.m. - American skater lands quad lutz
17-year-old American figure skater Vincent Zhou just landed a quadruple lutz in the men's short program, becoming the first Olympian ever to do so.
Zhou currently sits in first place with a score of 84.53, with teammates Adam Rippon and Nathan Chen still yet to skate.

8:09 p.m. - Shiffrin in fourth after first run
Mikaela Shiffrin currently sits in fourth place with a time of 49.37 seconds following her first run in women's slalom skiing. The 22-year-old defending gold medalist is less than half a second off the pace of Swiss leader Wendy Holdener.
