Sunshine and springlike temperatures will return to the Northeast tomorrow as the storm that has been bringing the chilly, unsettled weather departs.

Summerlike heat will persist across the central United States and spill eastward into the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Residents of the Southeast and Deep South should also prepare for hot and humid conditions.

A storm system moving through the northern Plains will bring soaking rain and thunderstorms to the Dakotas and Upper Midwest.

Severe thunderstorms will rattle the central and southern Plains with damaging winds, a few tornadoes and torrential downpours.

Gusty winds will whip through the Southwest and Sierra Nevada ahead of another storm system set to bring more chilly air and unsettled conditions to the Pacific Northwest.
