Tom Beres is the longest-tenured reporter with one single television station in Cleveland.
He has been at WKYC more than 32 years.
Since 1998, he has been Senior Political Correspondent focusing on the impact of political decisions and
officeholders on Channel 3 News viewers’ lives and livelihoods.
He has won 3 Emmys, two for investigative reporting.
He won the 1984 best Broadcast Writing Award from The Associated Press.
He is a graduate of Northwestern University getting both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in
Broadcast Journalism.
During his graduate year, he was a radio correspondent covering Watergate in Washington D.C.
His reports were heard on WMAQ in Chicago.
He was born in Ashtabula. He is a graduate of Westlake High School.
He worked as an intern and copy boy for The Cleveland Press.
He served as reporter for WERE and WSUM radio stations in Greater Cleveland.
He was an Anchor/Reporter for WDTN and WLWD TV in Dayton for 4 four years prior to coming to Cleveland.
He has moderated numerous political debates for Ohio Senator, Cleveland Mayor and other offices.
He’s hosted the Sunday morning political discussion show, Between the Lines, for 8 years.
He’s served on boards of the former Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland and Camp Ho Mita Koda,
a camp for diabetic children.
He is the shop steward and on the Board of Directors for the local chapter of AFTRA, the union representing broadcast news people.
His wife Susan is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. They live in Rocky River and have two children. Marty is a graduate student at Ohio State. Justine is an undergrad at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He is very grateful to be covering the political arena in his hometown.
