A.J. Colby
A native of northeastern Ohio, A.J. grew up in the heart of the Snowbelt in Ashtabula County. A.J. has always been fascinated by Mother Nature and he knew from a very early age that he wanted to be a meteorologist. After witnessing the powerful destruction of an F5 tornado (the deadliest, most violent winds on earth) when he was in 5th grade, his love affair with the weather grew into a healthy obsession. A.J. began his weather journey by reporting local temperatures and snowfall data to local media outlets. This love for weather data was augmented by an interest in television weather. A.J. began his college career at Kent State University, Ashtabula Campus. One year later, he transferred to the Ohio State University, and earned his bachelors degree in Arts and Sciences in 1996. A.J. began as a TV weathercaster when he was just 16 years old at WSEE TV 35 in Erie, PA. A couple years later, he was hired by WJW TV 8 to do free lance work at the age of 19. After moving to Columbus, Ohio to attend Ohio State, A.J. landed a weekend morning job at WCMH the NBC affiliate in Columbus. He began his post-collegiate career at WICU TV 12 in Erie, PA as the Chief Meteorologist. During that time, he earned the AMS Seal of Approval, coveted credentials in his field. Three years later in 2000, A.J. began working as the weekend evening meteorologist at WJW FOX 8 News here in Cleveland, and after a brief stint at WEWS Newschannel 5, he found his true home here at Channel 3 doing weekend evenings and filling in on various shifts as needed. |
