Cedar Point announces rides, changes

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Cedar Point today announced several changes and additions coming to the park this summer to complement the introduction of Valravn, the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster in the world, according to Tony Clark, director of Communications for Cedar Point.

The new offerings were revealed at Winter Chill Out event, a behind-the-scenes tour with all ticket proceeds going to A Kid Again – an organization that fosters hope, happiness and healing for families raising kids with life-threatening illnesses.

Cedar Point noted that today's event raised more than $40,000 for A Kid Again.

Cedar Point opens the weekend of May 7.

Here are the details, according to the Cedar Point's statement:

The Sunrise Thrills Tour For the first time in Cedar Point history, guests will have the opportunity to see what goes into “waking up” the park’s roller coasters. More importantly, the highlighted attraction is the new Valravn dive coaster, where guests can learn more about ride safety, technical operations, start-up procedures and the ride’s unique passenger vehicles. The highlight of the tour will be a climb to the top of Valravn’s 223-foot-tall hill for a breathtaking, panoramic view of Cedar Point (and some once-in-a-lifetime selfies).

Ride Warriors ClubUltimate Cedar Point fans can join the new Ride Warriors Club, a members-only group that receives exclusive park access and benefits. Inaugural members will receive their own membership card, private ride time on some of the park’s most popular rides throughout the season, access to invitation-only events, unique photo and video opportunities not available to the public, private question & answer sessions with park management and more.

Frontier InnLanding in FrontierTown near the Maverick roller coaster, this new specialty restaurant will serve up fresh-breaded crispy buttermilk chicken tenders, buffalo chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, delicious chicken salads, crispy fries, tater tots and more.

Coca-Cola OasisLocated just inside the main entrance, this beverage station will be the perfect spot to quench your thirst, featuring Coca-Cola Freestyle beverages and refillable souvenir drink bottles.

Ride Changes – Every winter, Cedar Point evaluates its entire operation in an effort to improve the guest experience. First, the park will debut all-new cars on the ever-popular Dodgem bumper car ride. The new cars will feature a two-tone gel-coat fiberglass finish, headlights, taillights and seating for two adults.

The statement also continues: Also, a makeover continues for the park’s popular Raptor and Top Thrill Dragster roller coasters. Both rides are receiving a fresh coat of paint in their original colors. Crews have completed painting Raptor’s signature shades of green, while work on Top Thrill Dragster will continue in the coming months when temperatures rise.

Finally, based on valued feedback from guests, combined with low ridership numbers, the Shoot the Rapids water ride, along with two rides in Challenge Park, Skyscraper and Challenge Racing, will not reopen this summer. All three attractions will be removed from the park prior to the upcoming season. No future plans for these areas have been announced.

Valravn will be the highlight of the summer at Cedar Point. Guests will climb over 20 stories before being held over the edge for four seconds as they hang, waiting for that heart-pounding moment. Then, it’s a 75-mph dive STRAIGHT DOWN at a 90-degree angle as the massive trains flip upside-down through three inversions along the ride’s 3,415 feet of steel track.
