CLEVELAND - Dave’s Supermarkets and Great Clips are among the companies that have signed on to participate in Make A Difference Day, a national day of volunteering set for Saturday, Oct. 22.
They will join WKYC employees, who will fan out across the city to take part in a variety of community service projects coordinated by BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence.
Dave’s Supermarkets will donate food for a cookout for 200 residents of Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry’s Men’s Shelter. And Great Clips of Northeastern Ohio will pitch in by providing free haircuts to the residents.
WKYC employees annually coordinate a service project at the shelter, which is just a few blocks from the television station.
Also, Arby’s is a national sponsor of Make A Difference Day, and its employees have volunteereed for a variety of local projects.
Make a Difference Day is held annually on the fourth Saturday in October. The volunteer initiative is guided by TEGNA Inc., the parent company of WKYC, and Gannett media properties.
“TEGNA’s purpose is to empower the people we serve and make a positive impact in our communities,” said TEGNA Chief Executive Officer and President Gracia Martore in a statement. “Make a Difference Day provides us an opportunity to do just that.”
Since its start in 1992, Make a Difference Day has become one of the nation’s largest annual single days of service nationwide.
In Northeast Ohio, a host of different volunteer opportunities are planned for Oct. 22, from cleaning up a Lake Erie beach to sorting donated medical supplies.
