CLEVELAND -- Two challenging kitchen chores are a piece of cake with our time-saving tricks.

First, are your stainless steel appliances a magnet for fingerprints? Keep them smudge-free with baby oil.

Here's how...

Clean the surface with a soapy sponge, and dry. Use a soft cloth to spread a thin layer of baby oil, then buff off the excess. The thin coat of oil will help prevent future fingerprints for a few weeks.

It won't repel all fingerprints, but we found that it really did help -- especially if you find yourself constantly wiping up after your kids!

Grease stains on stove top grates

This may be our most effective life hack yet.

Put each grate in a gallon zipper bag. Pour a quarter cup of ammonia into the bag, then seal and leave overnight. The fumes from the ammonia will soften years' worth of baked-on grease.

Using gloves in a well-ventilated room, remove the grates from the bag, rinse and wash. No scrubbing needed. They'll look good as new!

This also works on ceramic grill grates. Put the grate in a garbage bag, pour one cup of ammonia into the bag, and seal the bag with a rubber band. Leave overnight, then rinse and wash.
