
Most young thespians get a chance to shine in high school or community plays.
But a program at the Playhouse Square Center is giving talented young teens a chance to learn more about the stage, and their role in the community.
The program is called "STARS", Students Taking A Role in the Square. It's open to Northeast Ohio teens ages 14 to 19.
STARS students are volunteer ushers at the State, Allen and Palace theaters. They assist during shows and are get a backstage look at the Square's beautifully restored theaters.
STARS volunteers also taking part in The Reading Company. This is a literacy project at the Playhouse Square Center. The teens perform with Reading Company members, acting out a favorite children's book. The performances are held for children whose families are living in transitional housing. At the end of each performace, the children take home a copy of the book.
