Jaime Garcia loves his dog, Porter.
But sometimes life can get in the way of walks. "You know whenever you're sick, or out of town, or in a bind, or just busy," he explains.
That's where Wag! comes in.
It's an app for dog walking, on-demand.
"I love that you can just go on there and schedule a walk like you would call a uber or a lyft," says Garcia.
You can book a walk ASAP, or schedule it for a certain time. All walkers are screened and insured through Wag! in order to take pups for strolls.
"You have to get a background check and then you have to go through a few tests to go through safety of the dogs and harnesses and leashes, make sure you're putting them on correctly," explains Wag! walker Mackenzie Stelljes.
Mackenzie is a nursing student and dog lover, using Wag! for a flexible part-time job. "It's so relaxing for me just to get out and walk and earn a little bit of extra money," she says.
It's about $20 for a 30-minute walk. The app gives real-time updates from start to finish, a perk for pet parents.
"It tells you if they've pee, if they poop," says Garcia. 'Plus how long that they've walked, and also it will show you the map."
It's an easy way to give your pet some exercise during the dog days of summer.
Wag! offers a free first walk for new users and is expanding to new cities each month. Find out more by checking out their website or downloading the app.
Wag! is currently not available in Cleveland (the nearest city is Columbus), but Rover is. Rover is a similar app-based service available in more than 70 cities nationwide. Visit Rover's website here.
