Memories of 'The Two Bills,' Messages from LeBron James and Joe Thomas: Donovan Live Postgame Show

Jim Donovan reflects on his time with Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells, plus what did he and Dave DeNatale make of the LeBron James-Golden State report?

For me, it's must-see-TV whenever ESPN unveils a new '30 for 30' documentary.

Thursday night, Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells were center stage in the terrific 'The Two Bills,' as the pair were interviewed together for the first time since 1991, detailing their successful, yet dysfunctional relationship.

Jimmy and I had a late start to Thursday's Donovan Live Postgame Show, so we had a chance to watch a little bit of it. Amazing stuff. And it led to some great discussion from us during the show.

Jimmy recalled Belichick's first training camp meeting with Cleveland Browns reporters in 1991. Gone were the days where you had all-access to practices and the players. In came a cold war between the future five-time Super Bowl champion coach and the men and women who cover the team that lasted until the Browns moved and Belichick was fired after the 1995 season.

However, there was one local media member who Belichick did befriend during his time in Cleveland, the late Casey Coleman. Their friendship stayed strong all the way until Casey's tragic death from pancreatic cancer in November, 2006. Belichick interrupted his game-planning during the week of a Patriots game to come to Cleveland and pay his respects to Coleman's family.

Jimmy also had a connection with Bill Parcells. The Hall of Fame coach spent time working with Donovan as an analyst at NBC starting in 1991, after he won his second Super Bowl with the Giants.

In addition to going through the way-back machine with Belichick and Parcells, Jimmy and I also discussed the messages that were sent on Thursday by LeBron James and Joe Thomas.

According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, LeBron would be willing to meet with the Golden State Warriors when he hits free agency this summer. Do I buy that? Not so much. It feels like a warning flare fired towards Quicken Loans Arena to remind Cavs owner Dan Gilbert that the NBA's trading deadline is one week away. I was very curious to get Jimmy's thoughts on this story.

Also, Browns left tackle Joe Thomas had plenty to say in his latest 'The ThomaHawk Show' podcast with Andrew Hawkins. Thomas proclaimed Cleveland the front-runner to land Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is slated to become a free agent this offseason. As I said last night, I can't see (money aside) why Cousins would want to join a team that's been 1-31 over the last two years.

Yet, Jimmy put himself in Thomas' shoes and made what I thought was an effective pitch to Cousins as to why the Browns would make sense.

Finally, we took a first look at Super Bowl LII this Sunday in Minnesota as Belichick and his Patriots go for their sixth championship against the Philadelphia Eagles. Just a note, we will have plenty of coverage leading up to and throughout the game Sunday right here on WKYC.com and on Facebook Live. I hope you'll join us.
